Our guest is Brett Leonard, Hollywood film director, producer and music video director specializing in the science fiction and horror genres. A few of his films such as The Lawnmower Man (1992) and Virtuosity (1995) feature groundbreaking computer animation and visual effects. The Lawnmower Man is considered the first, seminal film to feature “virtual reality” as a cautionary tale becoming the number one commercially successful independent film of 1992

Brett Leonard tells us how the entertainment industry is being impacted by Covid-19, and his work in creating a safe secure alternative film-making environments. There is an inflection point of change right now, of what human work and intimacy means as we go more and more into cyberspace.

We have an opportunity to redefine who we are, of how we can create a more perfect union, and define the next chapter of the story of America, freedom and the world.  Brett speaks of world building, creating a virtual uptopia rather than a Skynet dystopia with our technology, and it is a great time for personal contemplation, with media  as a reflection to us of our own consciousness. The natives are restless as we continue the lockdown in California. Non-stop callers today covering the gamut of our current crisis. One of the big issues this week is getting back to work and what does that actually look like?  And how much death and suffering is caused by slowing the economy so drastically? Looking at such cost/benefit decisions is different for different callers, and we fielded quite a range.  

Callers were also very concerned about the erosion of constitutional and human rights during this health crisis, and what we can do about that.  And medically, we discussed a number of preventative health measures worth knowing, including vasodialation for preventing damage to one’s organs by Covid-19. Also, with our science correspondent Bobby Wilder, we discuss what’s up with the banning of certain popular spokespersons promulgating alternate points of view on the crisis, like Dr. Judy Mikovits.  The pond is beginning to boil as we start to reboot the economy.

Whew, we’d say that our community is getting quite testy, given the ongoing lockdown/quarantine, the fabulous Cabin Fever is the new normal so far..spring weather and inviting beaches, and the very low incidences of the virus in our county.   Mrs. Future has some great ideas on better rules for dealing with the virus. Questioning authority is a big topic of the day, callers revealing rude exercises of authority in popular outdoor spots, especially along the beaches. One caller, a waitress in Monterey, soon to go back to work, is wondering how people will eat out with mandatory face masks and gloves.  Discussions of what might be  better ways for the county to handle the situation is broached, after some good complaining of course.  Fielding calls from coast to coast, with our science correspondent Bobby Wilder, we had  our hands full for this show.
