An exciting though somewhat devastating week, with Super Storm Sandy having a big influence on many, we nonetheless have a few interesting stories to share.  I particularly enjoyed hearing from iOS developer Mark Buchanon, who described the high Apple corporate shakeup as an American royality story, with lots of drama in the court… I also found the One Laptop Per Child experiment of simply leaving softward-loaded tablets in remote Ethiopian villages to be quite compelling, given how quickly the village children embraced the tools, even without teachers to show them the way..

Maverick scientist and entrepreneur J. Craig Ventor makes the news this week with two stories, one on his plans to send a DNA sequencer to Mars, and the other to print organ replacements on demand..big dreams, big rewards if he can accomplish either of these goals.  

Meanwhile in Italy earthquake scientists have been indicted for being misunderstood, while hundreds die.  We’ll be watching this case closely, from a country that has little regard for science.  We also discuss the crowd sourcing of Iceland’s constitution, in the wake of economic collapse just a few years ago..a sign of things to come for us?

And the big news this week is Apple’s release of several hot new gagets, including the iPad mini and a significantly updated full-sized iPad.  We look at Apple’s offerings with the help of our seasoned expert on all things Apple, Taylor Barcroft and live from the California Theater in San Jose, Mr. Past, aka MC Hager, who was there, running the media Apple used to present their latest and greatest.
