Given we are media folks, how could we not add our 2 cents to the Will Smith/Chris Rock Oscar meltdown this week? We think you’ll appreciate our unique perspective, with our perceptive audince drawing comparisons with our story on the life/death cycle of stars.  Also of interest this week is how deep fake tech is being used to create a new form of misinformation especially created to undermine the leader of the Ukrainian war efforts. Imagine hearing Zelenskyy telling his people to put down their weapons and surrender to the Russians.  Fortunately in this case it was a bad fake of Zelenskyy, and didn’t fool anyone. Perhaps if we create deep fakes that could suggest a better path for our leaders, they might pay attention..

We also found out this week that the center sphere of our Milky Way galaxy is 2 billion years older than where we are in a remote spiral arm.  Our scientist astronomers believe that our galaxy formed from the collision of two other galaxies, one much older than the other. We are the young ones! Yay for the youth!

This week we delve a bit into personal electric yard work machines, our fav being The Chipper.  And in space, the Chinese Martian Rover, Zhurong, in good health, has it’s mission extended, looking now for water on the desert planet.  The Japanese space folks, meanwhile, have been testing a promising new type of rocket engine that could vastly extend the range of space ships, something called an ‘RDE’, a Rotating Detonation Engine, a kind of a Wankel engine for space!  And here in California we may soon have the power to run Doc Brown’s Delorean Time Machine, thanks to Lawrence Livermore Labs and their success in generating 10 quadtrillion watts of power with their experimental fusion reactor. Not ready for primetime but getting there!

Well, here we are in the year 2020 and still having fun..a good sign!  We were a little concerned that the fun we could have had with Deep Fakes may have been curtailed by Facebook’s plans to ban them, but in further thinking about it, we believe their attempts at banning will simply improve the quality of deep fakes faster. Meanwhile shallow fakes are good fodder for satire and editorial commentary. And to keep things edgey, Cambridge Analytica whistle blower Brittany Kaiser is releasing thousands of documents that will lay bare the global infrastructure of an operation used to manipulate voters in 68 countries!

Meanwhile, our new NASA planet finder, TESS, has found her first Earth type planet, only 101 light years from us. Good work, now all we need is the technology to get there quickly. The huge Consumer Electronics Show is in full tilt in Las Vegas, with many new gagets to amuse and amaze us, including new food. Great fake pork anyone? Enjoy..
